Amy Sheer Blessing Dress, Christening Dress, Baptism Dress with Matching Baby Headband

Sweet Amy!

Next up from our NEW designs is our Amy Blessing Dress.

Amy Short Christening Dress by One Small Child

Blessing Dress Details:

A 100% sheer lattice, polyester dress delicately overlays a soft 100% cotton slip.  Flower-vine details float atop the bodice lattice and skirt edge.  Perfectly scrunched lace wraps each sleeve in pure sweetness.  The white satin-ribbon sash makes getting that perfect fit a breeze.  (Ever wondered how to tie a dress sash into a perfect bow?  Check out our Facebook page for a tutorial.)

A matching headband pulls this quaint little dress altogether.  Soft elastic is attached to more flower-vine goodness, while an off-centered satin bow adds that “little something extra”.

Accessories:

Every mom wants their little one’s day to be memorable.  Let us help with our many accessories and embroidery options.  Listed below are some must-haves to create a notable and hassle-free day.

  • Camisole Onsie – not only do these hold baby’s diaper firmly in place during the ceremony, they are great for everyday use (get more and save with our 3-pack).  Have her initials monogrammed on the chest for a personal touch.
  • Cotton Diaper Cover – dainty satin-ribbon bows and cotton ruffles adorn the  legs.  And what could be more adorable than a cross, shamrock, or baby’s name embroidered on the bum!
  • Floral Initial Ruffle Bib – keep her dress pristine with a bib that looks as pretty as the dress.  The floral embroidery detail compliment the dress and the flourish initial makes it custom just for her.
  • Silver & Pearl Name Bracelet – divine fresh-water pearls and sterling silver beads encircle baby’s name, spelled in sterling silver letter blocks.  Add a cross charm and/or birthstone crystal to sparkle on her tiny wrist. Finally, a half-inch silver chain enables the bracelet to adjust for a lasting fit.

Have any embroidery done in your choice of white, baby pink, soft green, metallic gold, or silver thread.  White thread offers a subtle look, pink or green enhances her small features, while metallic gold and silver create a timeless feel.

Camilla Christening Gown - One Small Child

Brand New Spring Lace Christening Gowns Design – Camilla

Spring is Here!

Spring showers may bring April flowers, but here at One Small Child, Spring also brings fresh new designs. After a long winter of hunkering down and feverishly working, we are excited to present each one. First up is our Camilla Christening Gown:

Camilla Lace Christening Gown by One Small Child

What’s in a Name?

The name Camilla originates as a Latin baby name.  It means noble; free-born; servant of the temple.  We believe we captured the epitome of each meaning with this satin and lace baby gown.

Gown Details…

The square neckline brings a sense of noble birthright, just as it did in the 17th century. From neckline to hem stretches a generous floral lace panel with a unique continuous flow.  Dual intricate glossy-looping trims each side to confirm superior craftsmanship.  Scalloped lace is the final framework as it cascades over the shoulders and circles around the back.  This is a flawless introduction to scalloping lace that waterfalls down three-quarter sleeves.

This gown is made with matte satin.  Our satin is a pure white and lustrous mid-weight fabric.  This combination of color and density makes for a temperature comfy baby on any Spring day.

A hand-gather waist and 3 buttons make up the back.  The gathering offsets the simplistic front design, while buttons make for dressing ease.  And finally, the hem is festooned with a double laced edge, and more glossy looped lace.

As a bonus, we include a matching baby christening bonnet.  An exaggerated ruffle softly brushes baby’s sweet face.  A thick satin band accentuates a fully-lined puff style bonnet.  The open back design is indicative of a vintage inspired headpiece. Thin triple strand satin ribbons tie under the chin for a secure fit.

Christening Accessories:

What could be better than a gorgeous christening gown for your little one’s special day?  How about matching accessories to complete the look.  For those who adore lace, pair our Lucy Christening Slippers with this gown.  Or maybe a little less frill is more to your liking, take a look at our Bow Christening Slipper in satin.  And last but not least, make sure baby stays warm with this glorious Satin Ruffle Blanket.

Don’t forget to check out the embroidery options for both the baby slippers and blanket.  Personalize one or both to commemorate baby’s special day!

Esther Silk Christening Dress - One Small Child

Esther–Our New Silk Baptism Gown featuring Embroidered Lace Trim!

Old-world look, New-world feel

What could be better than a simple, yet elegant baptism gown?  How about one that is made with gorgeous pearl-white silk!  Our 100% silk dupioni provides an heirloom look with a rich luster & feel!  This particular silk is a subtly textured fabric woven from a double strand of silk yarn in a plain weave pattern. The yarn is uneven and varies in width, creating a series of natural horizontal “slubs” that fosters a unique old-world character within the fabric.

To add even more vintage appeal, classic silk puff-sleeves accompany a silk high-waist bodice.  Followed by a lavish one-inch pure silk ribbon that is used for the dress sash.  This brings luxury and allows adjustment freedom for a snug custom fit.

Embroidered Lace

For the focal point of the bodice we used beaded scalloped-peaked embroidered lace.  The pearl-like beadwork in the center of the lace provides subtle detail, along with impeccable presentation.  In addition, this elaborate lace is the highlight of the matching bonnet, along with more one-inch pure silk ribbon for chin ties.  Also, the skirt is adorned with additional embroidered lace as it is festooned around the edging like delicate icing on a cake.  Dainty beads sprinkle the embroidered lace of both the bonnet and the skirt–so quaint!  Finally, the skirt becomes complete with a generous silk-ruffle hem.

Baptism Keepsake Quality

The grandeur of this gown stands alone.  However,  we felt personalized embroidery would add the perfect keepsake touch.  To do this we have included a soft cotton slip to go underneath the gown.  Here a cross, full name and baptism date, or birth date can be a needlepoint work of art to be cherished.  By customizing the slip, the gown is left in an heirloom quality that can be handed down to future posterity.

Preslee Christening Gown - One Small Child

The Preslee: A Beautiful Silk Christening Gown from One Small Child

Gorgeous embroidery and intricate beadwork graces tulle lace and rich silk. The Preslee Silk Christening Gown is simply stunning!

Preslee Silk Christening Gown

All About the Preslee

The Preslee is an extravagant event gown made from 100% silk dupioni. Dupioni is a subtly textured fabric in a plain weave pattern. The yarn is uneven and varies in width, creating a series of natural horizontal “slubs”. These “slubs” make up the unique character of the fabric and offer a rich feel. The Preslee’s silk is a pearl white color. It’s a rich, creamy shade between white and ivory.

The silk is overlain with stunning embroidered tulle lace. This tulle lace is a sheer net in a hexagonal mesh pattern. It is a light, flowing fabric. Pretty embroidered flowers are elegantly scattered across the tulle. Each features a delicate bough of beads, hand-sewn in place.

The bodice features a scalloped-lace overlay, a lustrous double-face silk ribbon sash, and stunning silk rosette. The beautiful rosette is hand-finished with a spray of ostrich feathers and three freshwater pearls. A matching rosette piece is placed on a wide, stretchy-lace headband. The bodice boasts feminine puffed sleeves.

The silk skirt is overlain with the embroidered & delicately beaded tulle lace. The hem is finished with a petite scallop. The Preslee is a regal length gown. (Overall length is 38-40″, depending on the size.) The double-faced silk ribbon sash ties in the back. A row of silk-covered buttons fastens the back of the gown. It’s presentation ready with an heirloom style. (Buttons part-way down the back.)

A soft cotton slip is layered beneath the Preslee. It features a generous ruffled hem that adds a touch of body to the skirt of the gown. Personalize the slip with a name and date embroidery for a special touch.

The Preslee Gown comes as a four-piece set and includes: the gown, a matching headband, the ruffled cotton slip and a muslin preservation garment bag. Add all the separate co-ordinates: the Preslee Slippers, the Preslee Blanket and the Preslee Bib for a complete look. As always, the Preslee is handcrafted, with love, in the USA of imported fabrics.

Preserving your Christening Gown or Suit

Your beautiful event is now over. All the guests have now gone, the decorations have been taken down and all those thank you cards are sent. There’s just one more thing on your to-do list: preserving your Christening gown or suit. So, what are the best methods of storage for your precious gown? Are there any preservation tips or tricks? How do you keep your gown looking crisp for siblings or generations to come? Today, we’ll teach you how to preserve and store your Christening gown or outfit the right way.

Step 1-Dry clean or hand-wash the baptism gown or blessing outfit as directed on the clothing tag. Why? Stains and body oils can irreparably discolor the fabric. If your item calls for a hand wash, avoid using harsh soaps, chlorine bleach, fabric softeners, and starch. Rinse the christening dress or outfit well to remove detergent residues.

Step 2-Once the gown or outfit is completely dry, stuff it with clean, acid-free tissue; this will help prevent hard creases that can weaken the fabric. Fold additional tissue into pleats and slip it between layers of fabric.

Step 3-Place the christening outfit in a 100 percent cotton muslin garment bag. Plastic or vinyl bags are unacceptable for long-term preservation since garments need to breathe. For this same reason, you should not seal or wrap a cardboard box containing heirloom christening clothing. Never pack mothballs with your christening apparel since they can ruin fabric over time. Also, avoid storing the christening suit or gown with metal items. If you have purchased a bracelet for your special occasion, you can find the perfect display frame here. It’s a good idea to label your storage container (if it is not already monogrammed or personalized) with your child’s name and event or birth date.

Step 4-Store the christening gown in a dark, cool, dry place (for example, in a closet or under a bed). Avoid storing the box or bag in places where temperature or humidity may fluctuate seasonally (for example, a garage or attic). The ideal storage place has a relative humidity of 55 percent and a temperature of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is a good idea to check your outfit once in a while to ensure that it is maintaining its beauty. When you handle your christening heirloom, wear cotton gloves–skin oils can discolor fabric.

When you wish to use your treasured christening gown or outfit again, remove it from the storage container and air it out for several days. You may need to steam the item to remove wrinkles; iron only as a last resort, and only on a very low setting.

That’s all there is to it. Now you know how to preserve and store your Christening gown or outfit for generations to come!
