The Kingston is a five-piece suit set that includes a jacket, shorts, bodyshirt, hat and tie. True to a little man’s styling, the bodyshirt is made from a soft combed cotton and buttons up to a pointed collar. Short sleeves make for easy layering. A snap crotch closure allows for quick diapering. The jacket, shorts, hat and tie are made from luxurious dupioni silk. It’s a rich material that is made by weaving a double strand of silk yarn in a plain. pattern. The yarn is uneven and varies in width, creating a series of natural horizontal “slubs”. These make up the unique, rich character of the textile. It’s lightweight, making it just right for his warm-weather event. Three silk-covered buttons fasten the jacket front. The silk shorts are a flat-front design with an easy-on elastic back. The silk tie is removable for versatility. A visor beret hat tops off his little boy look. How handsome!

This precious A-line was made especially for our owner/designer’s youngest daughter (isn’t she adorable) who wore it for a very special religious occasion. It is absolutely perfect for an older baby that is on the move. Katy specifically designed this dress for her walking baby.

A simple scoop neckline and A-line shape allows exquisite embroidered netting lace to steal the show. And does it ever! Embroidered netting is a very delicate, open and light fabric that’s created by twisting, knotting, or weaving threads together at regular intervals. This process creates an absolutely gorgeous lace. The lace is showcased in the elbow-length sleeves and the extended hemline. We love the modern pointed scallops! Katy selected an amazing diamond silk taffeta for the dress lining. It’s super soft and the subtle sheen is stunning. Covered buttons close at the back.

Making the Royal Christening Gowns by One Small Child

Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes. Here’s how the Royal Christening Gowns are made.

How it all started… After Great Britain’s little prince was Christened in 2013, we started receiving calls asking if we had any boys baptism gowns made from frilly lace. Do we offer anything a little more decorated? Can I get a longer gown? Can you make it with more ruffles? Mothers and Godmothers wanted something grand. Something monumental. Something Royal…

How we made it happen… We knew we had to answer the call to design an aristocratic christening gown. We started listing all the design elements that customers were begging for. Ruffles. Ivory lace. Very, very long. Ornate. Old-fashioned. Just like Prince George’s. So we went to work.

We selected fabrics of the highest quality. A lustrous satin-silk was the perfect base. It combines all the rich character of silk with the luster and smooth texture of satin. It’s absolutely heavenly to the touch. We topped it with a re-embroidered lace netting. What’s so great about that? All the texture! The fine needlepoint lace boasts filled-in motifs, outlined with a heavier silky cord that create a raised outer edge. The floral motifs stand out on a sheer net background. It’s absolutely lovely.

We designed the gown to be a replica of the English Royal Family’s gown. Our Royal Gown captures the essence of old-world fashion in a modern world. It boasts a lace collar. An embroidered bodice, flanked with lace panels. Tiered lace ruffle sleeves. Symmetrical sweeps and ruffled skirt. An exaggerated heirloom length. Button back closure. Hand-gathered silk trim.

The Royal Christening Re-Cap from One Small Child

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was christened yesterday, July 5th, 2015. The small ceremony took place at the church at St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, Norfolk. The same church that princess Diana was christened at.

The royal family arrived in style, with Princess Charlotte being pushed in a pram by her mother. The Duchess wore a beautiful cream dress coat and matching hat. Onlookers were delighted that the little prince sported a red short outfit that was very similar to the one his father wore when he first met his baby brother, Prince Harry.

Following tradition, the little princess was baptized in the same christening gown used in 2013 by her older brother, in the lily baptismal font, and in water from the River Jordan. The archbishop of Canterbury performed the ceremony, which was attended only by very close family. A small reception was held afterward, followed by tea at the Queen’s nearby residence and official photographs. At tea, guests were served cake that, following tradition, was a tier from the duke and duchess’ wedding cake.

The Duke and Duchess decided to break tradition when naming Charlotte’s Godparents. They didn’t choose anyone from the royal family, but three close friends and a cousin from each side. To learn more about them, and the ceremony, we found this article from bbc.com to be the most informative.

We love that the Duke and Duchess centered the ceremony on tradition, and kept the spirit of Princess Diana present in small, significant ways. We also love that they preserved the sacred nature of the ceremony by keeping it small and intimate. Princess Charlotte looked stunning in the traditional heirloom gown.
