About a year ago, I was helping out at our customer service desk and took a call from a loving aunt, looking for a christening gown suitable for a baby with special needs. This was my introduction to Beautiful Daisy, a darling baby girl born with a rare and devastating skin condition called EB. Any kind of pressure/touch causes her skin to break out in painful sores and blisters. Coordinating with her mother, we were able to make some modifications to our Mandi christening gown in an effort to lessen possible friction and rubbing of the garment.
I’ve checked in on Daisy periodically since then…I’m touched by the sheer enormity of the challenges she faces, and that despite these challenges, her mother describes her as sweet, happy, and determined. She has defied the odds in surviving her first year, and at 17 months of age is walking and talking and playing.
This week, local churches and charitable organizations are raising funds to help Daisy’s family build a specially equipped room to better facilitate her significant daily-care needs. Please visit her site to learn more and to see what you can do to help out.
Precious Rosemaria’s aunt, Sylvia, comments:
“Rosemaria is wearing the Belle gown. Her mother Athena said she absolutely loved the detail and comfort of the dress. The best part is in the Orthodox Church the child returns to Church wearing their baptismal outfit for the first three Sundays following the baptism so she got to wear it four times! Athena now has it hung on a vintage hanger as decoration in Rosemaria’s room.”

I hope the long Labor Day holiday weekend finds you all well. I’m just a bit sad to wave goodbye to summer, but I LOVE autumn…truthfully, I enjoy every season (except maybe that dreary spell between Valentine’s Day and Easter).
I’ll be spending the weekend keeping up with my family and working on some new christening styles as well as a few upcoming changes and new features for this blog. Any suggestions or comments? Let me know!

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a daily basis with many beautiful, smart, talented, hard-working women (and a lone man–my brother Kendall). One Small Child is a team effort–it takes a lot of hands to create, package and ship our products.
We had a little ‘get together’ the other day, and I brought my trusty camera along so I could give you a peek at most of the movers-and-shakers around here. This is the second year of a new company tradition: our summer chicken-in-the-barrel party (we cook our chicken a little bit differently than the recipe on the link…but the main concept is the same, and it is to-die-for yummy).
