All About the Demi…

The Demi features a classic silhouette: capped sleeves and a fitted bodice. Made from embroidered taffeta, and fully lined, it makes the perfect little party outfit! What makes this dress so fun? The circle skirt! Circle skirts create natural ‘pleats’ and volume at the hem. It’s such a pretty, feminine look! A modern floral motif is embroidered with shiny thread. This creates a subtle sheen that offers dimension and visual interest. A little lace trim finishes the hem. Silk ribbon ties and a row of buttons fasten the back of the dress.

The New Fancy Feathered Christening Gown by One Small Child

The new Fancy feathered christening gown really lives up to her name! Gorgeous feathers cascade down the skirt of this spectacular dress…

All About the Fancy…

A simple capped-sleeve bodice is timeless. Made from bridal quality satin, it has a sheen that all but glows. Covered buttons fasten the back of the bodice. An wide satin ribbon belt accentuates the waistline for an extra feminine feel. It’s decorated with an organza rosette pin. The pin features a bough of feather and beaded plumes. A lengthy satin ribbon sash ties in back.

The skirt is absolutely stunning. Intricate embroidery, 3d organza flowers and ostrich feather plumes decorate this extra-long skirt. The pretty flowers are centered with sparkly beads for extra flair. So beautiful! The skirt is made from a soft, lustrous organza. Doesn’t it make the perfect background for all those details? The hem is finished with a soft, scalloped lace.

No look is complete without accessories. A large organza rosette with feather and bead plumes makes a fun finishing touch. The wide, stretchy lace headband is so soft and included with the gown.

A Vintage Inspired Christening Party – Revisited

We shopped our homes to pull together this eclectic little event. An unexpected location, some fun décor and yummy food created an easy vibe. A unifying color scheme made it easy to create a vintage vibe that really rocked when we added a few modern elements. Who knew a pitchfork and vintage trike could look so good?

This adorable bright ceramic bird, and painted feathers tied our table-scape together.

A burlap tablecloth is made elegant with a long lace runner. The silver candelabra, assorted glassware and bouquet of baby’s breath completed this fun table-scape.

We loved this Paper Pyramid Light Garland made by The Society of National Industry on Etsy. It was so easy to incorporate these sweet lights in our decor setting. They added warmth and a little twinkle to these rustic barn doors.

What do you wear to an eclectic, vintage event? An eyelet A-line dress, of course! We paired this one with ballet style leather moccs, tied up with lace. So adorable! Top it with a hand-made baby’s breath wreath and her outfit’s complete!

Spray-painted feathers make an amazing garland that comes alive in the breeze. It was so easy to create! Learn how on our painted feathers tutorial.

A little jute tie around this napkin kept the feathers in their pretty place.

Aren’t these christening invitations (courtesy of Biplane Press on Etsy) so elegant? The silver foil adds a bit of shimmer to the embossed details. We were so impressed with the quality of paper, ink and the attention to details of this invitation. Great job Biplane Press!

A collection of glassware in varied shades and heights made for an entertaining spread. What’s on the menu? These scrumptious sugar cookies were fabulous frosted, or without! How about a little custard on the side?

Layers upon layers made this stacked crepe cake. We topped it with fresh raspberries and a dust of sugar. It was A.MA.ZING. Click here for the recipe. We simplified a little by using prepared Bavarian Cream Pastry Filling instead of homemade…loved every bite!

Lace-tied candles added a sophisticated element to our table-scape. A little lemonade was a refreshing treat at this fun christening brunch.

An old wooden spool made a splendid spot for our little brunch. Add a handmade wood stool and a rusted metal chair and you have the perfect setting!

When filled with delicious sugar cookies, these stamped muslin bags (courtesy of Yellow Flower Designs on Etsy) made for a wonderful take-home treat!

We loved putting together this vintage inspired christening party! We hope to have brought you some wonderful ideas to create your own setting for a special event! Fall Mommy + Me Looks by One Small Child

At One Small Child, we work hard to bring you wonderful products to shop. But sometimes it doesn’t feel like work at all. Sometimes we get to do the shopping! For our Fall Collection, we shopped for some great dresses and jewelry for our mommy models to wear. Today we’re sharing those gorgeous mommy looks with you. After all, aren’t we mothers always in the background of our littles’ lives? And backgrounds can be beautiful too, right?

We’re highlighting another outfit from our new Fall Collection today–the Landen! This adorable baby suspender outfit has the look of a linen suit without all the fuss. Let us tell you all about it…

All About the Landen…

This boys outfit is simply classic! It starts off with a crisp white bodyshirt. These are so convenient when it comes to baby occasion wear. It has the look of a formal white shirt with buttons up the front and a clean-cut collar. What’s awesome is the snap crotch guarantees it’ll never come un-tucked. It’s the perfect shirt-bodysuit hybrid! The Landen bodyshirt is long-sleeved for warmer weather events.

The Landen pants are so —– They have the look of wonderful, textured linen without all the fuss. They’re machine washable and much softer to the touch. A must for baby clothing! Fall Collection: Derek Cashmere Gray Baby Suit

Take a look at our newest addition to our line of baby boy occasion wear! The Derek 5-piece suit is every bit as comfortable as it is adorable!

All About the Derek…

Our classic bodyshirt starts is all. Made from a soft combed cotton, it’s perfectly white. It boasts long sleeves and a crisp collar. The amazing undershirt buttons up the front for style. Snaps close the crotch for quick and easy clothing.

The Derek is made from an amazing poly-blend fabric that is called cashmere. And that’s how it feels. It is supremely soft to the touch. We know you’ll fall in love! Your little guy will appreciate the warmth and comfort of the Derek as much as you’ll adore the way he looks.

The Derek suit coat is lined and adorable! large shiny black buttons close the front. The lapels look just like daddy’s and end mid to lower chest. Two faux pockets decorate the front of the jacket. A slit in the back of the coat provides tailored comfort.

A matching gray vest sits comfortably beneath the suit jacket. The rounded neckline allows the vest to be visible when wearing the jacket, so you get the full effect of the outfit. Slightly smaller matching black buttons close the front. The front panels end in two handsome points for a fashionable statement.

The Derek pants are simple flat front slacks. An elastic back makes for easy on and off. They are comfortable and practical for your baby boy. Perfect!

Norah’s Special Day with One Small Child

As promised, here are some pictures of adorable baby Norah’s special day. She’s dressed in her gorgeous gown, designed by her mama, Lindsey. Her older brothers look so handsome! We have loved getting to know Lindsey and her beautiful family a little better. We feel so privileged to have been a part of making their wonderful occasion special. Here are a few snapshots and some thoughts and feelings Lindsey shared via Instagram.

The Norah: A Custom Designed Gown

Our new Norah Dress has such a wonderful story behind it that we want to share with you. This is how this beautiful custom designed gown came to be:

Lindsey is someone who I have looked up to for many years. When I started the adoption journey over 6 years ago, Lindsey’s blog therhouse was light in a dark world of unknowns. Adoption is exciting and scary all at the same time. Lindsey’s blog educates people on what a healthy open adoption looks like. It shows you how incredible birth parents are. Birth parents are often times greatly misunderstood, and Lindsey’s mission in life is to change the stigma. Birth parents are incredible people with a great love for their children.

Lindsey has four children, all through the miracle of adoption. Three boys and one baby girl call her Mama. My third child and Lindsey’s third child even share a birthday. How cool is that!?! When Lindsey adopted her fourth child, her first little girl, I knew I wanted to help design her dress. I was ecstatic when Lindsey whole-heartedly agreed. Together we came up with a unique design made just for Norah.

We started with some sketches of our basic idea. Isn’t it amazing to see how much the design evolves when you compare the first sketch to the final product?

The next step was to draft the technical drawings. This gives us a more in-depth idea of how to construct the gown. From this, we made our first sample. Lindsay and I shared pictures back and forth via text.

Lindsey has a love for lace and asked that we incorporate that in the gown. We went searching for something fabulous and found this gorgeous Venice lace for the Norah.

It was such an enjoyable experience to design a gown with a woman who I truly look up to. She was SO fun to work with! Stay tuned for images of Norah’s special day.

One Small Child Fall Collection: Norah Hi-Low Christening Dress

We are so excited to introduce our first new Christening gown of fall 2015! Meet the Norah…

All About the Norah…

Can we just say we love this hi-low christening dress! Every detail adds to the magnificent look of the Norah. A satin bodice provides a pretty sheen. Lace trim accentuates the waistline. Sweet layers of flowing organza cascade on the hi-low style skirt. Each tier is finished with a dainty lace trim. Adorable bell sleeves are trimmed with matching lace. Two tiny satin ribbons tie at the back, along with the button-back closure. A matching bonnet features gathered satin and a lace trim. Thin satin ribbon ties secure the bonnet.

Accessorize the Norah…

To complete her occasion outfit, may we suggest:

–The Norah Headband. A twisted cluster of beads atop a satin band. This headband is adorable!

–The Lacy Camisole Bodysuit. A pretty lace panel decorates the bodice of this super soft bodysuit. Our signature camisole style ensures bulky sleeves won’t be bothersome for layering underneath all baby’s outfits!

–The Lucy Slippers. These comfy crib shoes are made from shimmery nylon lace and fully lined with soft cotton fleece. The Lucy Slippers co-ordinate beautifully with the Norah Gown.
