How did you find One Small Child?

I found One Small Child with a Google search. It was one of the first links that caught my eye.

Was the purchasing simple and hassle-free?

Purchasing from One Small Child was very simple, with no hassle at all. I was also able to have a great conversation with an associate of One Small Child prior to purchasing. Communication was simple and hassle free as well!

What did you look for in a photographer?

Since I am a photographer, I did the photos of my daughter. I was going for a clean, minimal look that captured the beauty and sweetness of my daughter as well as the lovely gown and bonnet she was wearing.

What images of your event were important for you to capture?

We just had someone take some snapshots during the actual ceremony. The baptism took place during mass. We were able to get some shots with big brother, who made his First Communion that day as well.

What was the planning process like for your little one’s big day?

We spoke with the church committee and planned to do the baptism during mass, the same day my son made his First Communion, as we had family in town visiting. It was quaint and quick…but very special. The biggest task was finding the perfect dress-and One Small Child made that easy!

What did you want it to feel like/theme to be?

We wanted to have a simple service without stress. We had just built and moved in to our first home a week prior, and Daddy was getting ready to leave to go overseas. The less complicated, the better for us!

Did you provide a meal to friends and family afterwards?

All of our close friends and family went out for the evening to Olive Garden for dinner. It was nice to relax, celebrate, and not have to worry about catering the party. I also had a gorgeous, yummy cake made for dessert!

Was there a particular moment that was memorable on that day aside from the event itself?

It was a wonderful feeling to have all our friends and family together to celebrate. Simply put, felt very blessed!

Are you going to preserve and/or frame your babies’ gowns?

I plan to get the gown preserved this month. I am hoping that one of my three children will want to use it for their daughter one day.

Looking back, was there anything you would do differently?

Not a thing!

How did you find One Small Child?

I was searching the internet for a unique and elegant dress that would be suitable for passing on as an heirloom one day. One Small Child was at the top of all my search lists.

Was the purchasing simple and hassle-free?

I was pleasantly shocked to find out that the company is based in Blackfoot, Idaho–within an hour away from my home! I had the rare treat of going to visit in person and picking out the Memory gown and all of its accessories. The customer service was amazing, especially considering that I came without calling first. They sent me home with everything except the things I asked to have embroidered, which arrived by mail two days later!

What did you look for in a photographer?

I opted for a photo session rather than professional pictures at the blessing. My photographer was very in tune with the fact that I prefer classic portraiture over babies wrapped in fabric, in baskets, with flowers, etc. I wanted someone who had the special knack for bringing out the person behind a face. I’m highly satisfied with the results! Her name is Leah Stallings, and she can be found at LeahStallings.com.

What images of your event were important for you to capture?

Family is paramount to me and in my religion. Most ceremonies are performed by male relatives instead of, or in addition to church leaders. And due to the physical limitations of some family members, we were given permission to gather at home rather than the chapel.

The living room was surrounded by windows and full of light as my new daughter’s uncles, grandfathers, and others, all dressed in Sunday suits, formed a ring around her and supported her weight in their joined hands. My husband spoke the words to announce her name before the church, and bless her with a happy, purposeful life and many things unique to her blossoming personality.

What was the planning process like for your little one’s big day?

My dear sister-in-law offered her home for the event, and ordered flowers and refreshments besides. Not having to plan gave me more time to play dress-up with my daughter. 🙂

What did you want it to feel like/theme to be?

We didn’t want a big party, just time to be with our near and dear ones. It was small but formal, peaceful but happy. There were four generations of family gathered together that day. Some may not live long enough for Baby to remember, but now she will know they were there, and that they loved her.

Did you provide a meal to friends and family afterwards?

There were homemade desserts provided. We gathered in the rather large kitchen and talked for an hour or two.

Was there a particular moment that was memorable on that day aside from the event itself?

I was quite content to watch others cuddle the tiny object of our mass adoration. This child was born to be a true lady, and dressed to match. She politely smiled or cooed as occasion called for, with her hands folded over her delicate lace shawl, and her long gown cascading over laps and arms by turns. I was glad the outfit was comfortable enough that she never fussed at all. The Memory gown was ideally suited to match the sweet, sacred nature of our wonderful day!

Are you going to preserve and/or frame your babies’ gowns?

The embroidered bib will be framed for Baby to have when she is older. The dress will be used as often as it is needed, hopefully for generations to come. The slip was embroidered with her monogram, and to it will be added the initials of future wearers.

Looking back, was there anything you would do differently?

No. I believe that God keeps our needs and wants in mind. We had actually ordered a different dress before we found One Small Child, but the order could not be completed, and I feel that I was being lead to find a dress that would satisfy my desires for my child in every way. As a heavenly parent, he knows my darling girl is worth celebrating too!

Customer Highlight: Little Sergio in Justin Baptism Gown - One Small Child

Customer Highlight: Little Sergio in our Justin Gown

Today we’re featuring an adorable little man in our Justin Baptism Gown on our customer highlight series. Sergio’s gown was embroidered with our gold name and date embroidery option. His Godmother also purchased the Boys Christening Accessory Set for Sergio’s big day.

Customer Highlight: Little Sergio in Justin Baptism Gown from OneSmallChild.com

-How did you find One Small Child?

I found One Small Child via another person’s Pin on Pinterest and then Google’d them further to see what the store had to offer in regards to Baptism clothing.

-Was the purchasing simple hassle free?

The purchasing process was very hassle free online and also over the phone.  When I had called to rush the order, Christine had supported all my requests and changes with immediate attention and did an amazing job!

-Did the adding embroidery create the special touch you were envisioning?

Yes, absolutely!  It was even better when we were able to select the different color options for the embroidery.

-Did you use a professional photographer to capture special moments?

No.

-Did you have pictures of Sergio in his Justin Gown?

Yes, we did a mini photo shoot at home. Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of photos of the celebration or food.

-What was the planning process like for his special day?

It was a real rush. We only had 10 days to get everything organized and planned. The baptism courses didn’t end until Jan 29th. At that point we were allowed to book a date. The problem was we couldn’t baptize during Lent, which this year started on Feb 18th. After Easter our Godmother will be overseas. The only day that worked for all of us was Feb 8th. I utilized Pinterest and created a board for food menu, décor.

-What did you want it to feel like/theme to be?

We just wanted an enjoyable celebration that was elegant with family and friends.

-Did you provide a meal to friends and family afterwards? If so, what was the menu?

Yes, we hosted the celebration after the ceremony in our log home. We had everything from traditional Portuguese cuisines to modern comfort food. Portuguese fried chicken, roast beef, Bacalhau (traditional Portuguese cod and potato dish), meatballs, pasta salad, shrimp, scallop potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrot salad, chef salad, corn, fresh Portuguese sweet bread, veggies, fruit, cheese and cracker trays, Caldo Verde (traditional Portuguese Kale soup), rice pudding, cheesecake, and celebratory cupcakes.

-Was there one particular moment that was very memorable on that day, aside from the event itself?

Keeping the Portuguese tradition, we had his Godmother arrive early to dress Sergio in his gown. It was memorable watching him getting dressed and seeing the gown for the first time.

One moment that does stand out was during the ceremony, standing up at the front of the church, when Father Thomas went to bless Sergio’s mouth, Sergio couldn’t help but try to bite his fingers… I guess everything is a teether to him. Everyone in mass laughed, including the priest. It was very adorable.

Another moment was the photo shoot. Here Sergio was playing with his personalized Christening Set he received from his Godmother from One Small Child.

-Are you going to preserve and frame your baby’s gown/suit?

We will be keeping the gown. It holds a special value being personalized with his name and baptismal date.

-Was there anything that you would do differently in hindsight?

More planning. Unfortunately, because of the last minute notice, we didn’t have enough time to send out invitations. Invites became a personable via mass text messages and Facebook private messages. And a lot of family and friends already had commitments for that day.

-What resources did you use?

Pinterest and One Small Child’s Christening Gift Set; gifted from his Godmother. The set is just beautiful. The quality is excellent and having it personalized with his name adds a real special touch. Our son can grow with it during his faith-filled years and it’s something that can be passed down to his children.
